Folly Beach is a popular beach near Charleston, South Carolina. On the far north end of the island is a state park where you can see the remains of the old Morris Island. The island has been washed away, but the light that was constructed in 1876 still remains. For this photograph, I was able to catch the sun for only a few minutes as it finally appeared between two cloud layers. I liked the way this old tree cast an interesting shadow across the sand.

I liked the way these old trees on the beach seemed to be pointing directly at the rising sun. This photo was taken within a few minutes of "Morris Island Sunrise".

This image won the 2014 Charleston Magazine Images of Charleston photo contest, amateur category. It was also featured on the cover of the August 2014 issue. I used a neutral density filter on my lens to render the waves as a foggy mist on this one minute long exposure.
